The 22nd edition of the Fernando Távora Award is accepting applications until 10 August
Applications are now open for the 22nd edition of the Fernando Távora Award, an initiative organised by the Northern Regional Section of the Portuguese Architects’ Association (SR-NRT), once again in partnership with Casa da Arquitetura, Matosinhos Municipal Council and the Marques da Silva Foundation, and sponsored by Ageas Seguros.
The prize is awarded annually to the best research travel proposal submitted by architects registered with the Order of Architects, awarding a grant of €6,000 to support projects that value the experience of travel as a tool for learning, knowledge and deepening architectural culture.
Applications are open until 10 August 2026, with the winner of the 22nd edition due to be announced on 12 October 2026.
Established in 2005, the Fernando Távora Award honours the architect who influenced several generations through his work and teaching. A champion of the importance of direct engagement with architecture, history and culture, Fernando Távora undertook, throughout his life, countless study trips across different continents, making this experience an essential component of his professional and teaching practice.
The award thus seeks to highlight the contribution of travel and field observation to the training and cultural enrichment of architects, encouraging research and engagement with different architectural and territorial realities.
The jury for this edition will comprise chef Rui Paula, as a leading cultural figure from outside the field of architecture, and architect António Cerejeira Fontes, representing SR-NRT, architect Andrea Soutinho, nominated by the Marques da Silva Foundation, architect Pedro Ramalho, nominated by Casa da Arquitetura, and architect Pedro Távora de Magalhães Basto, appointed by the family of architect Fernando Távora.
